1. San Antonio Trash Pickup Schedule 2024

Like the rest of Texas, the residential trash pickup starts at 7:00 am on your specific day.

The city is divided into 5 zones, and residential waste is collected each day from respective areas.

  • Household trash is picked up once a week
  • Recyclables are collected once a week
  • Bulk and Brush services are arranged twice a year

When Is Trash Pickup In San Antonio?

To know about your collection day, you’ll need to check through the city government’s official portal. Here’s how to do it:

  • All your trash schedule, including bulk, recyclable, and brush, will pop up.

San Antonio Garbage Pickup Rules

Apart from placing the cart at the curb on time, residents are also bound to rules set by San Antonio solid waste management department:

  • The cartwheels should be touching the curb.
  • Carts should be placed at least three feet apart.
  • Don’t overfill or overstuff the carts.
  • Cart lids must be closed properly.
  • Do not put extra material on top or to the side of your carts. 
  • You must put away your carts by no later than 10pm on your collection day.

It is worth mentioning that walk-up service is also provided to all residents who are unable to roll their carts to the curb.

2. San Antonio Bulk Pickup Schedule 

Bulky and brush are collected twice a year. The Alamo city residents receive a city flyer a week before a bulky item collection is scheduled for their area.

How much bulk pickup is allowed: Your bulk pile cannot exceed over 8 cubic yards. 

  • You must set out bulk and brush on the first day of your collection week, no later than 7:00 am.
  • Don’t place the pile near cars, buildings, or in such a way that it blocks the road.
  • Bulky piles should be placed within 8 feet of your curb.
  • Excessive trash will not be collected.

San Antonio Bulk Pickup Acceptable Items

It is worth mentioning that only acceptable items will be picked by the city waste management department. Here’s what you can put in bulk and brush:

  • Barbecue grills (without coals)
  • Carpets (cut into small pieces)
  • Fencing
  • Broken furniture
  • Large appliances
  • Up to 3 TVs
  • Water heaters
  • Mattresses

It is best to donate still usable bulk furniture or appliances to goodwill or local charities rather than putting them into the trash.

What Can’t Be Placed As Bulk Trash in San Antonio?

Alike the Fort Worth trash policies (same for the whole state), here’re the unacceptable things that you can’t put in brush and bulky.

  • Batteries
  • Bio-hazardous items
  • Construction debris
  • Dead animals
  • Fireworks
  • Hazardous waste
  • Medicine
  • Hot coals and ashes

These items will not be collected. Still, you can get rid of them by disposing of them either at SA Household Hazardous Waste Drop-Off Center or the Bulky Drop-off Center

There are 4 bulky waste centers in the city. All residents must bring any identity proof, i.e, a CPS energy bill and a photo ID.

3. San Antonio Recycle Pickup Schedule

Recyclables are collected once a week. The recyclables trash is picked up in the same way as green organic carts.

Rules For Recycling Cart

  • It is not allowed to place recyclables in bags, always put them in the blue cart.
  • You must flatten out all the cardboard.
  • Paper is accepted only if it’s not food-soiled.
  • Rinse jars (peanut butter, jelly) properly before putting them in the blue cart.
  • Remove lids before putting the jars for recycling.
  • Never use your blue cart as overflow for trash.

It is worth mentioning that continuous violations will result in a monthly fine.

4. San Antonio Trash Pickup Holiday Schedule

The trash day in San Antonio is delayed to one day only on holidays. This goes the same with the street sweeping schedule. The city will observe only three holidays.

  • Martin Luther King, Jr. Day – Every collection day this week will slide to one day later.
  • Thanksgiving (28 Nov) – Thursday collection slides to Friday and so on.
  • Christmas (25 Dec) – Whole week collection will move to the next day.
