You can dump large items at Mark Lane Transfer Facility for free twice a year, a service that’s in line with the kind of convenience offered in the Enfield trash schedule.

Did you get more stuff to toss? The Refuse Department’s got your back. They will pick up oversized items right from your curb.

But you have to call them first at 203-574-6857 and set a date. Keep it to five items max. They are open 5 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. 

Acceptable Items for Bulk Collection

• Batteries – alkaline and rechargeable.  No car batteries.
• Bulky Waste – couches, mattresses, large furniture items and residential construction materials, carpet
• Electronics – televisions, computers and peripherals, radios, cell phones etc.
• Automobile Tires
• Used Motor Oil and Anti-Freeze – do NOT mix together. Motor oil will only be accepted in containers that are no larger than one gallon.
• Recyclables –Paper, cardboard, paperboard ONLY (Curbside recycling also accepts glass, metal, and plastic cans, bottles, foils, and trays)
• Scrap Metal (no propane tanks)
• Yard Waste – Use only compostable yard waste bags for grass, and leaves.  All brush must be cut and tied and be less than 4 inches in diameter and no more than 6 feet in length.

Waterbury CT Trash Recycling Schedule

In Waterbury, the Bureau of Refuse keeps its doors open from March 1st to November 30th, Tuesday to Saturday, bright and early from 7 AM until 2:30 PM, a schedule that is managed differently compared to the Torrington garbage pickup schedule. 

When winter comes around, from December 1st to the end of February, they switch it up to Monday through Friday, the same time slot.

• Cardboard – corrugated cardboard.  Pizza boxes may be recycled only if free of food and grease.  You may separate a clean pizza box lid from the greasy lower portion to recycle the lid.
• Glass Bottles & Jars – please rinse.  The lids are okay.
• Plastic Food & Beverage Containers – plastic bottles, jars, and hard plastic containers and lids with recycling symbols and #1-7.  Please rinse. The lids are okay.
• Metal Cans, Foils, and Trays – including aluminum foil and aluminum trays.

Unacceptable Items for Recycling Collection

• Plastic Bags – please never put plastic bags in your recycling bin.  If you have clean plastic bags that you wish to recycle you may recycle them at Waterbury Target, Stop & Shop, and ShopRite stores. 
• Plastic Foam – ex foam cups, packing peanuts, block foam.
• Food Contaminated Material – ex. greasy pizza boxes, aluminum trays with baked food, etc.
• Non-Bottle/Jar Glass – ex. window glass, light bulbs, china.
• Electronics – Recycle televisions, computers, phones, and other electronics either at Waterbury’s Mark Lane Facility or Take 2, Inc.
• Paper Cups/Paper Plates/Paper Napkins
