Residential garbage is collected weekly. Homes in narrow allies get twice weekly service. Here’s how to find your pickup day:

The collection begins at 6 am. You can roll out the carts at 6:30 pm prior to your trash pickup day if the carts are properly secured.

Where To Report Missed Trash Pickup In DC?

If you think your refuse or recycling cart was not picked up by mistake, report the missed pickup at 311. Usually, if the carts are not placed on time or as per rules, the service is not provided. In such cases, a ticket is issued.

But if you’ve put carts on the curb timely and as per the city’s government laws, the service will be provided within 24 hours after reporting.

2. DC Bulk Trash Pickup Service

Bulky pickup service is provided to all residents on special appointments. To request a large item collection service, call 311 or fill out a form online. (click here)

  • Residents need to make a request 4 – 6 days prior to their collection day.
  • You must place large items at least 5 meters away from the road, water meters, and trees.
  • Up to 7 large items are allowed per collection.
  • Place bulky items to the curb no earlier than 6:30 pm prior to your collection day.

It is worth mentioning that hefty items weighing over 500 lbs will not be picked up. Mostly, the collection days are appointed on the next regular pickup days.
