1. Burnaby Garbage Collection 2024

Trash pickup begins at 7 am. All residents can find their garbage collection day through the city’s official website. Here’s how to do it:

• Navigate to Burnaby city’s website (click here)
• Add your address in the search bar
• All your trash, recycling, and green bin schedules will be displayed

Residents can also set reminders and download the yearly calendar for ease. Keep in mind that garbage is collected every other week. So, if you forget to roll out the black bin, then you have to wait till the next collection day.

The best way to remember your Burnaby trash day is to download the recycle coach app. Through it, you’ll be notified of any delay or change in the collection schedule.

2. Get A  Reminder And Get Your Yearly Calendar

As mentioned earlier, you can set reminders and download the calendar. Here’s how you can get the yearly schedule:

• Go to the city’s website (click here)
• Type your address and get your schedule
• Scroll down and click on “Set a reminder” and “Download the calendar.” 

If you opt for the reminder, you will receive a system-automated call or text 24 hours prior to your collection day.

3. Report Burnaby Missed Garbage Collection

If you have rolled out the carts on the curb on your assigned day, still your cart is not emptied, you need to report the missed pickup at 604 -294 -7972.

Before you report the missed pickup, ensure two things:

• Make sure that your cart was placed on the curb before 7 am.
• There is no label or ticket placed on the bin.

Keep in mind that if your bin contains any household hazardous material or unaccepted items, you’ll have to pay a fine.

4. Burnaby Recycling Pickup 2024

Recyclables are collected every week. To find your next collection day, click here. If you have a large quantity of recyclables, you can drop them off at the Burnaby recycling depot.

Here’re the 5 rules to follow:

• Rinse plastic bottles before tossing them in the blue bin.
• Flatten the cardboard and cut them for the right fit.
• Keep the labels on the bottle and jars.
• Don’t put any leftover food liquid in the blue bin, as it will make it stinky.
• While placing the recycling bin on the curb, ensure that there’s at least 3 feet distance from the other bins.

As for the general rule of thumb, when in doubt, toss it away. If there’s any unaccepted item in the bin, it will not be picked up.

5. Burnaby Recycling Depot

Recyclables that can’t fit into your bin need to be disposed of at the landfill. The city has two centers where you can drop recycling at a small fee.

Keep in mind that only residents of Burnaby are allowed to enter the depot. Moreover, no help will be provided while unloading the vehicle. 

6. City Of Burnaby Large Item Pickup

All residents can schedule a free bulk pickup. To schedule your next appointment, either fill out the online form or call 604 -294 -7972.

• Up to 3 items are allowed.
• You need to place the large items on the curb yourself.
• Items that weigh more than 80 lbs will not be collected.
• After collection, you must clean the curb yourself.
• Renovation or construction debris will not be picked up.

Moreover, items that are too hefty for two people’s job will not be collected. We strongly suggest you donate slightly used items to a local goodwill or sell them in a yard sale, if possible.

8. Burnaby Garbage Collection Holidays 2024

On statutory holidays, trash collection is delayed and pushed to the next working day. Suppose your pickup day falls on Monday. Due to a holiday, the refuse/recycling will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday collection will be pushed to Wednesday and so on.

Like the nearby Surry City trash pickup, residential garbage in Burnaby is also collected every other week, while the recyclables are picked up weekly. Yard waste is collected from mid-May to December only.
