1. Tacoma Garbage Schedule 2024

Garbage and recycling are collected every other week on your assigned day. Here’s how to find your trash day:

  • Navigate to the city’s official website (click here)
  • Type your address in the “Your Location” bar
  • Then, press enter, and your schedule will pop up

Acceptable Curbside Garbage: 

Aluminum foil and trays, Cardboard, Caps and lids, Cat litter (bagged), Cement bags, Disposable diapers, Foam rubber, Pizza boxes, Styrofoam products, Tissues, Toys, and Woven bags.

2. Tacoma Recycling Schedule

Recyclables are collected every other week along with your regular garbage day. Click here to find out when your recycling cart will be collected. 

  • Don’t recycle glass, food scrap, and plastic wraps.
  • Recyclables must be placed loosely.
  • Electronics and household hazardous waste is not collected from the curbside.

All residents must find a drop-off location for e-waste, hazardous material, and batteries.

  • Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 5:30 pm for recyclables. 
  • The Household hazardous waste facility remains open from Friday to Monday, 8 am to 5:30 pm.

3. Tacoma Yard Waste Pickup 2024

Yard waste is collected weekly from the curbside, along with food waste. Put all yard waste into the brown cart.

  • Only leaves, clipping, weeds, sticks, and branches are accepted.
  • Dirt, sod, lumber, or bark are not accepted as yard waste.

4. Tacoma Call 2 Haul

Call 2 Haul is a bulky trash pickup service provided by the city to all its residents without any additional charge. 

  • Only two collections per residential address are allowed.
  • Appointments are made by call only.
  • For an appointment, call 253 -573 -2468.

Accepted Items For Call 2 Haul: Large appliances, BBQ grills, Rolled carpets, Large furniture items, Old electronics, Large glass items, Yard and exercise equipment, Kitchen and bath items, or up to 15 bags of household items.

Unaccepted Items For Tacoma Bulk Trash: Regular household garbage, Hazardous material, TVs, Computer, Monitors, Construction debris, Automobile parts, Tires, and Vehicle parts.

5. Got Large Items That City Won’t Pick Up? You Need To Hire Junk Removal Service!

Private junk haulers will collect every type of trash but usually charge a small fee for bulky trash pickup. You can hire them, and they will do the rest of the work, loading and unloading the truck, disposing of trash properly, etc.

It is best to get an early estimate before you rent a trash dumpster or hire private haulers.

Keep in mind that some haulers don’t accept motor oil or construction debris. So, don’t forget to ask about the accepted items list.

6. Tacoma Garbage Pickup Holidays 2024

Curbside services are not provided on holidays. The residential trash service is delayed and pushed to next day on the following days:

  • New Year’s Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Day

If any of the holidays fall on the weekend, the collection schedule will not be affected.
