So, can we skip to the good part?

1. Grand Rapids Trash Pickup Schedule 2024

Curbside residential garbage is collected weekly. Here’s how you can find your assigned refuse day:

  • Access the city’s government official sanitation department website (click here)
  • Type your address in the search bar given in the middle
  • Both your general waste and recycling pickup schedules will pop up

Keep in mind that garbage pickup in Grand Rapids begins at 7 am. So, ensure to roll out your carts before that on your collection day.

  • Pickup dates could be delayed on holidays.

  • The lid of your blue bin must be properly closed.
  • Don’t put any food leftovers or liquids in your recycling cart.

It is worth mentioning that if you missed your recycling day, then no special service will be provided.

3. Grand Rapids Yard Waste Pickup 2024

Yard waste is collected on the same day as your regular refuse day. The only catch is the yard waste is collected between early April to mid-December.

  • An additional $27.50 will be charged for the yard waste cart.
  • Residents can use paper bags too. For each bag, they’ll have to pay $2.50 or $12.50 for 5 bags.
  • The weight of the bag can’t exceed over 30 lbs.
  • Use purple yard waste bulk tags for placing twigs, branches, or stems. You can buy these tags from any of the nearest sellers

Grass clipping, leaves, brush, twigs, and garden plants are accepted as yard waste. Construction debris or yard waste will not be collected along with green waste.

5. Got Bulky Trash That City Won’t Pick Up? You Need To Hire Private Junk Haulers!

To be honest, GR bulky service is quite expensive as you have to pay $35 per item. Well, this is where private junk haulers came in. There are many private junk haulers in the US that collect large items in way less than this amount.

Here’s the list of the top 7 private haulers near you:

Company NameContact Info

College Hunks Hauling Junk616 -330 -1090
Junk Knights616 -805 -9773

Speaking of my personal experience, it is best to get an early estimate and list of accepted items, as some of the haulers don’t pick up construction debris.

6. Grand Rapids Trash Pickup Holiday 2024

On holidays, the collection is delayed and pushed to the next day. The city observes five holidays around the year. No curbside pickup will be provided on the following days:

HolidayDate
Memorial Day Monday, May 27

Labor Day Monday, September 2

As mentioned above, no service will be provided on holidays. So, for the coming Thanksgiving trash day, the collection day will be Friday instead of Thursday.
