Keep in mind that the curbside residential collection begins at 7 a.m. So, be assured to roll out your carts on time.

2. Get Your Yearly Calendar For Oakville Garbage Collection Schedule

Now, the residents don’t have to wait for printout calendars as they can get their yearly copy in PDF form right away. Here’s how you can get yours.

Apart from that, you can also set a reminder for your collection day. An automated mail or text will be delivered to your number prior to the collection day.

3. Report Missed Trash Collection

If you’ve placed out your carts on time, still your garbage is not collected. Then, you need to report the missed collection. Call 311 or 905 -825 -6000, and a special service will be provided within the next 24 hours.

You can also fill out an online form or email accesshalton@halton.ca.Before you call or complain, ensure three things are mentioned below:

  • Items were placed outside on your collection day
  • The carts were out before 7 a.m.
  • You have used appropriate bags and city’s approved containers

Moreover, it is worth mentioning that if your cart contains any household hazardous waste material or sharp objects.

4. Oakville Garbage Day Rules To Follow

Apart from following the time, here are six rules that you must follow:

  • Household refuse must be packed. Loose items will not be collected.
  • Your container must not weigh over 23 kg or 50 lbs.
  • During winters and snowfall, ensure that your garbage is free of snow.
  • Don’t place any bags on the top.
  • Before you put sharp items or glass in the container, ensure that it is securely wrapped with newspaper to prevent any accidental cuts.
  • Set up your carts in such a way that they are a minimum of 2 feet away from the main road and from each other.

Regardless of all this, the rule of thumb remains the same. Household hazardous waste in any cart is not allowed.

Use Diaper And Healthcare Tags
Diapers and healthcare equipment are not accepted in black bins. If you want to get rid of diapers, you need to buy diaper tags. For healthcare equipment, put all items in a bag with a tag and place it on the curb on your regular trash day, every other week.

5. Oakville Recycling Schedule 

Recyclables in blue boxes are collected every week. To find your next recycling collection day, click here. The weight of the box must not exceed 85 liters, and the size must remain 40 cm in length x 51cm in width x 54 cm in height.

  • There is no limit to the number of blue boxes per home.
  • All recyclables must be loosely placed.
  • You can put all recyclables in one box or separate plastic bags.
  • Rinse and dry bottles before putting them in.
  • Don’t overfill your blue box.
  • Squeez cans and flatten the cartons to maximize space in your bin.
  • Accepted items mixed with unaccepted items will not be collected.

Moreover, it is advised to wash your blue recycling cart(s) every other week to prevent a stinky smell from coming out from them. Also, there is no place for leftover food or renovation debris in your box.

6. Oakville Yard Waste Collection

Yard waste is picked up from the first week of April to the second week of December.

  • Yard waste is collected either in brown bins or the city’s approved sustainable bags.
  • The weight must not exceed 125 L or 50 lbs.
  • Cut large branches into small pieces and tie them in bundles no larger than 2m x 1m.

Yard waste is collected weekly. However, residents can’t put it out on the curb prior to their collection day. Moreover, grass clippings are only accepted from October to May.

Christmas Tree Pickup In Oakville
Christmas trees are picked up from the curbside from 1st January to 12 January. After that, residents need to drop off the real trees in the city’s approved parks themselves. Keep in mind that only the trees free of all plastic ornaments are picked up along with your Christmas trash collection.

7. Oakville Bulk Garbage Pickup 2024

Residential bulk items are picked up every other week. Only 3 items are allowed per collection. The size of each time must never exceed 50 lbs. 

  • No special pickup call(s) are required.
  • There is no charge for bulky collection service.
  • Residents need to place all items on the curb themselves.
  • Don’t pile up items onto each other.
  • Never place your bulky items in the cardboard boxes.
  • Only 3 items will be collected.

It is best to donate the items, if possible. Most of the bulk waste ends up in landfills. You can donate semi-used furniture to the local Goodwill Centre or place it on the curb for a free giveaway. 

It is the responsibility of the resident to clear the leftover junk after the collection. No assistance will be provided while placing or removing the bulky items.

8. Got Bulky Trash That City Won’t Pick Up? You Need To Hire A Private Junk Hauler!

Hiring private junk haulers is the best solution to get rid of all your unwanted large items. Private haulers usually charge anywhere between $450 to $650. They will pick up every type of trash and dispose of it properly.

You can also rent a trash dumpster for way less money. But then, you’ll have to do all of the hard work yourself, i.e. from loading to unloading at the nearby landfill. You’ll also have to pay the entry fee based on the weight of the dumpster.
